Child Health
To see that your children are growing and developing normally a planned programme of health checks is provided by the Health Visitors and doctors for children up to 5 years of age.
Baby changing facilities are available if required, please ask at reception.
Our practice nurses offer a drop in clinic on a Wednesday morning from 10.00am to 12.00 noon; appointments are not necessary as babies will be vaccinated on a “1st come; 1st served” basis.
Children
Should be protected by starting their immunisations when aged 8 weeks. We would like all children to be immunised at the surgery. Our practice nurses are available every Wednesday morning by appointment. Your child can be immunised at other times by arrangement.
Adults Travelling Abroad
Check with our practice nurse if you are unsure whether you are up to date with tetanus / polio / diphtheria immunisation.
The practice nurse is available to discuss with you vaccinations required for travelling aboard; please let reception know where you will be visiting at the time of making the appointment. There may be a charge for some vaccinations; payment will be required before the vaccination is given.
Teenagers
If you wish you may see us on your own. Remember you can talk over anything with the practice nurse, health visitor or doctor which you can be sure they will keep private, unless you tell us that your welfare is being put at risk.
Contraception
Make a routine appointment with the doctor or practice nurse, private & confidential advice is available to patients of all ages about all methods of contraception available.
Emergency Contraception
See a doctor for private & confidential advice after unprotected sex. The on-call doctor will see you if your usual doctor is booked.
Planning For A Baby
It is very important to stop smoking and take Folic Acid before getting pregnant. Please see the nurse or doctor for advice before stopping contraception.
Maternity
If you think you are pregnant, please make a routine appointment with your usual doctor/midwife. We are happy to help you plan your maternity care.
Cervical Smear Test
Smear tests detect early minor changes which are simple to treat but if left can sometimes go on to become cancer. It is important for women to have regular checks.
Breast Screening
We strongly recommend all women over the age of 50 years to attend for their breast screening (mammography) when they are offered an appointment.
Asthma Clinic
Do not let your asthma keep you awake at night or stop you leading a full life. Asthma attacks can be prevented. Appointments can be booked at reception.
Diabetic Clinic
All diabetic patients will be invited to regularly attend the surgery diabetic clinic, unless they are being cared for solely by the hospital diabetic clinic. Good control keeps you well and reduces complications.
Minor Surgery
The removal of some cysts, skin lumps and bumps, ingrowing toe nails and injections of painful joints are done by the doctors in the surgery. For an assessment, please make an appointment with your usual doctor.
Helping you Stay Healthy
We recommend that you enjoy healthy eating, take regular physical activity and use alcohol sensibly.
If you smoke we advise you to stop now.
Want To Stop?
We would like to offer you help and encouragement. Our specialist Health Educator nurse is available most Tuesdays. Please phone for an appointment.
New Patient Checks
When you register you will be asked to complete some forms and to attend for a simple health check.

Any adult aged between 40 and 74 who has not seen a doctor or practice nurse within the last 5 years is invited to attend for a simple check-up, including a blood pressure check. Please ask the receptionist to make you an appointment with the practice nurse.
